WhatsApp is developing a new function for chat backup for iCloud and Google Drive. The security of cloud backups will improve with the addition of the password protection security feature. The feature has been in development since last year, and now screenshots for iOS and Android apps are available.
WhatsApp is introducing a password-protected feature for Google Drive and iCloud.
WABetaInfo posted screenshots and revealed how the Password Protection feature will work. In the picture we can see, it reads as,
“To prevent unauthorized access to your iCloud Drive backup, you can set a password that will be used to encrypt future backups. This password will be required when you restore from the backup.”
As previously announced, @WhatsApp is working on cloud backups encryption.
The chat database and media will be safe from unauthorized access when using a password. The password is private and it’s not sent to WhatsApp.

The user must input a password that is eight characters long to protect the chat backup. The text “WhatsApp will not be able to recover the forgotten passwords” can also be seen in the image. Because you won’t be able to reset the password, you must be sure that you remember it. Remember the password if you choose to encrypt chats and media after the feature is officially released.
No further official statement or information regarding the feature’s unveiling date is available as of yet; only this news is. However, it appears that both Android and iOS smartphones will soon support the new Password protected functionality.
WhatsApp communications, on the other hand, are end-to-end encrypted, so only the sender and receiver can see them. According to the service, online backups kept on iCloud and Google Drive are not covered by this protection. Once the backup has been placed on this server, the cloud service providers are now in charge of the security backup.
As a result of the revised privacy policy, stories regarding the new security feature have surfaced just as WhatsApp’s reputation has taken a significant knock. Whatsapp claims that the new policy won’t compromise the security of the user’s private chats, despite this.
Whatsapp will also include new features like the ability to add contacts through QR Code, disappearing messages, and more.
