Netflix is planning to give one-weekend free access to its Indian users. The company is testing to expand its reach in the country. Recently, the company reported a slow growth of the app in India for the quarter ending in September.

According to the reports on Techcrunch, the top company executive has announced free weekend access for Indian users. Recently, Netflix has stopped offering its free one month trial for the new users in the US. However, according to the COO and Chief Product Officer at Netflix Greg Peters, the company is experimenting with new ways to attract users in other countries.
Greg Peters said one of the new ways to attract customers is to give away free access for one Weekend in different markets.
Greg Peters also added,
“The company has picked India, where it competes with Disney, Amazon, and technically three-dozen additional services, as the first market where it will test this idea and “will see how that goes,” from there.”
So, if you are already a Netflix subscriber, then you will not get this free access. This offer is for all those users who do not have a Netflix account.
According to HindustanTimes, on 4th December there will be a promotional offer “StreamFest“, where this 48-hours free access offer will be available for Indian users.
This is not the first time Netflix is using India for a test to bring new ideas. First, the company came up with the idea of a $2.7 monthly plan of mobile-only in New Delhi. Last year, it made this a permanent tier in India. Since then, the company has tested more pricing plans in India.
Recently, Netflix has done a partnership with Reliance Jio, which is India’s Largest telecom operator. This partnership is to bundle its app on Jio fiber’s broadband and mobile data plans. The company has also done partnerships with financial institutions in the country to make the payment process easy.
In a letter to shareholders, the company said,
“We expect [more payment options] will have retention benefits. All of these initiatives are important and work in concert with our big investment in local originals to improve the Netflix experience for our members.”
