The Facebook vs. Apple story started last week when Apple announced a new privacy policy rule. In the upcoming iOS 14.3 update, when the user will open the Facebook app on their iPhone, it will ask “permission for tracking the app or not to track.” That means you will not see any personalized ads on Facebook if you do not allow to track them.
App Tracking Transparency Feature in iPhone will Stop Showing Personalized Ads
The App Tracking Transparency feature will ask, “Allow the app to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites?” You will see two options when you open the app for the first time or after the update. It will ask, “Ask app, not to Track” or “Allow.” So, all the fight between Apple and Facebook started last week, when Apple announced this feature.
Normally, we see ads according to our browsing history, depending on what we have searched. You might have seen; whenever we search for anything on Google, we start getting ads of that on social media apps. This thing will be stopped in the upcoming privacy feature by Apple.
A new privacy policy was about to come out with iOS 14.3 update, but the company has delayed it to early 2021. The user will see the App Tracking Transparency feature in the app Settings in the Privacy menu. Once the update is rolled out, all the iPhone users can select whether they want to allow the app to track their data or not.
Apple CEO Tim Cook posted a tweet and said,
“We believe users should have the choice over the data that is being collected about them and how it’s used. Facebook can continue to track users across apps and websites as before, App Tracking Transparency in iOS 14 will just require that they ask for your permission first.”
To which Facebook said, the new policy by Apple restricts the business’s ability to run the ads and reach customers.
Facebook Ad read,
“While limiting how personalised ads can be used does impact larger companies like us, these changes will be devastating to small businesses adding to the many challenges they face right now”.
The company posted a blog claiming Apple creating a policy for profiteering under the form of policy.
Facebook has criticized Apple’s policy of iOS 14 for the second time. Earlier in August also, the company said that the privacy feature by Apply significantly stops the ability to provide targeted ads to iPhone users; this will leave a bad effect on business done on social media.
