Facebook Messenger has brought a new privacy feature. The feature will allow the users to lock the chat app through Face ID or Touch ID. As of now, the “app lock” feature is available for only for iPad and iPhone users. Soon, the feature will be available for Android users also.
Face ID or Touch ID Feature Will Allow The User To Lock Messenger App
The company has added this app lock feature to add more privacy to the app. All the Messenger users will have better control over their chats once they lock the app.
In a blog post, the Director of Product Management, Messenger Privacy and Safety, Jay Sullivan said,
“App Lock lets you add another layer of security to your private messages and helps prevent other people from accessing them. This optional feature gives you the confidence to know that if a friend or a family member needs to borrow your phone, they won’t be able to access your chats.”
Sullivan also said that Facebook would store none of the privacy settings of Touch ID or Face ID of the users.
One can turn on the App Lock feature by going to Privacy settings in Facebook Messenger. The company aims to make the Privacy section into one central location to view the audience for muted stories, blocked people, and the stories.
Jay Sullivan said,
“App Lock and the Privacy section let you tailor your experience and choose settings that work best for you. We’re always working to give you more control over your privacy, so as we introduce more privacy features, you’ll have this centralized place to find them.”
According to the reports, Facebook Messenger is working on messaging controls feature like Instagram. It will allow the users to have control on who can send messages on Messenger and who can’t. In the new feature, the user will decide who can message them or call directly. The user will get the request in the requests folder. However, the control feature is still under development, and once it is in testing mode, the company will notify us.
The App lock feature will be coming to Messenger soon for all the users. Recently, a screen sharing feature for Messenger app was announced on the Android and iOS platform. The same feature can be coming to Web and desktop through Messenger Rooms.
